1. Spending too long in the shower

The urge to stay longer in that hot shower is simply irresistible especially during this cold weather. However, what you don’t know is that it’s not advisable to stay in the shower for too long.

It can make your skin dry and itchy. Experts recommend showering for no more than five or 10 minutes at a time.

2.Not scrubbing your feet

How many times do you scrub your body whilst forgetting to give your feet a good scrub while taking a shower? Our feet are prone to bacterial infections and other fungi which can be very unpleasant; and hence the reason why you should thoroughly wash your feet and dry them completely after every shower.

3. Drying yourself too hard

It’s rather the norm for most of us to give ourselves a good hard rub with the towel to dry ourselves off. Surprisingly, it turns out drying yourself roughly with the towel actually damages the skin.

It is advised that one should simply pat him/herself dry with a soft towel.

4. Scrubbing your scalp with your fingernails

If you’ve been scrubbing your scalp using your fingernails then you’ve just been doing more harm than good to yourself. Experts say that by doing so, you might scratch the scalp and even cause flaking. Instead, use your fingertips to work up a lather.

5. You wait to apply lotion

The best time to apply lotion on your skin is when it is still damp. Lotion soaks into skin best when it’s a little damp.

“Make use of the ambient heat from the shower and humidity in the bathroom and put on moisturizer within minutes.”

6. Leaving your loofah (shower sponge) in the shower

Yes, that sisal-looking shower sponge can cause all sorts of nasty stuff to start growing if left in the shower moist.

“When you use [a loofah] dead skin cells become lodged in the nooks. These dead skin cells are a breeding ground for bacteria,” says a dermatologist.

Instead, make sure to wash it thoroughly and dry it somewhere outside; where bacteria can’t be attracted.
