According to the FP2020 report, more than 700,000 women are opting for the modern ways of Family planning due to its accessibility and benefits.

Reproductive Health and Senior Deputy Director of Medical Services in the  Ministry of Health, Dr. Steve Kaliti, applauded the health sector in Kenya for such an accomplishment  that has taken the sector ‘decades’ to achieve.

“While successes like these should be applauded, it is no time to get complacent,” Mr Kaliti stated.

He further emphasized on the need for quality maternal health within the country by providing young women with access to a full range of contraceptive options in an effort to curb maternal deaths completely.

“Allowing young women to plan whether and when they want to start their families gives them the option to stay in school, join the workforce or pursue other dreams. This access to services will improve health and well-being and pave the way for a more prosperous Kenya,” the deputy head said.

Mr Kaliti  highlighted the access of contraception to women as a matter that should be dealt with urgency as data reports indicate that Kenya, as a nation is falling behind in terms of reaching out to more women.

“We have a wealth of high-quality data and evidence on effective interventions, such as investing in youth, particularly adolescent girls, expanding access in both rural and urban settings and improving the quality of services and number of contraceptive options that women have available to them.

"You will agree with me, ladies and gentlemen, that the benefits of family planning go beyond the individual.  Family planning is a “win-win” for both health and wealth," he stated.
