Everyone is bound to develop one mental disorder – new study reveals

Mental disorder can affect functioning at work, schools and relationships...

Mental illness is a disease that can affect anyone out there, regardless of your social status.

Take Linkin Park’s late lead singer, Chester Bennington for example. His untimely death caused a stir all over the world with many saddened and completely shocked by his demise.

Chester had suffered molestation as a child, depression as well as drugs and alcohol addiction throughout his life.

Bennington was apparently so broken by the death of his close friend Chris Cornell, who also committed suicide in May, that he wrote a touching letter to Cornell expressing how he “can’t imagine a world without you in it”.

Many speculated that this could have sent him over the edge seeing that Bennington killed himself on what would have been Chris Cornell’s 53 birthday as well as the similarities between their deaths.

Apparently mental illness is so common that almost everyone will develop at least one diagnosable mental disorder at some point in their life - they include depression, dysthymic disorder and bipolar disorder.

The unfortunate thing about all this however is that most of these people will never receive treatment and their relationships and job performances are likely to pay the price.

Roughly 20-25 percent of the population will suffer from a mental illness which basically means that they will experience psychological distress so bad that it will impair functioning at work, school or in their relationships

The study revealed that you are more likely to develop a mental illness as compared to developing diabetes, heart disease or any other cancer combined.

Some of the ways to handle metal illness especially if your family member suffers from it is to get as much information about it as you can. It will help understand why your family member is acting out the way they are and how exactly you can assist them.

After understanding what they are going through, then you would be able to come up with various treatment options for them and how to move forward.
