How to create a YouTube channel

About Creating a YouTube channel

Gone are the days when the best method of advertising and marketing was approaching a Radio or TV station or even a Newspaper publication. It would cost you an arm and a leg to advertise on the mainstream media.

Nowadays the only thing you need is a good supply of internet and a strong social media presence. If you have quality products or services, crazy talent and many other things to offer, the internet is a cheap but powerful channel.

YouTube is the biggest internet video-sharing platform in the world so far. It is owned by internet giant Google and it offers an opportunity for literally anyone to post a video on YouTube for free. In return, YouTube earns profit from advertisers. When a video gains a lot of views and subscriptions, the big companies leverage on it to market their products.

Keep in mind too that you can also earn money from YouTube as long as you have done the following:

a) Activate monetization on your YouTube account.

b) Provide your taxation information, bank account and mailing address.

c) Attract enough views and subscriptions that advertisers will want to advertise on your videos.

To achieve all that you need to have an account. Therefore here are some easy workable steps on how to create a YouTube account.

1. Google Account

First of all you need to ensure that you have a Google account. You cannot access the full spectrum of services offered by YouTube if you do not have a Google account. All you need to do is to create a Gmail account and then you are good to go.

With a Google Account, you can watch and like videos and subscribe to channels.

2. Create a YouTube channel

Without a YouTube channel, you have no public presence on YouTube. Even if you have a Google Account, you need to create a YouTube channel to upload videos, comment, or make playlists. You can use a computer or the YouTube mobile site to create a new channel.

Follow these instructions as given by YouTube on how to set up a YouTube channel.

  • Sign in to YouTube on a computer or using the mobile site.
  • Try any action that requires a channel, such as uploading a video, posting a comment, or creating a playlist.
  • If you don't yet have a channel, you'll see a prompt to create a channel.
  • Check the details (with your Google Account name and photo) and confirm to create your new channel.

How to create a channel with a business name or other name

YouTube has also made provisions for a person to create a channel that can have multiple managers or owners. This can be used by companies or businesses that want to start their own YouTube channel.

These are the instructions given by YouTube.

You can use a Brand Account to create a channel that has a different name but that's still managed from your Google Account.

  1. Sign in to YouTube on a computer or using the mobile site.
  2. Go to your channel list.
  3. Choose to create a new channel or use an existing Brand Account:
    • Create a new channel by clicking Create a new channel.
    • Create a YouTube channel for a Brand Account that you already manage by choosing the Brand Account from the list. If this Brand Account already has a channel, you can't create a new one—you'll just be switched over to that channel if you select the Brand Account from the list.
  4. Fill out the details to name your new channel and verify your account. Then, click Done. This creates a new Brand Account.
  5. To add a channel manager, follow the instructions to change channel owners and managers.
