DP Ruto declares parts of Baringo and E Marakwet dangerous zones, full security operation to begin today

“Any criminal who has a fire arm and steals cattle’s, murders innocent mothers and children they too deserve to killed," William Ruto stated.

 

"Things will not remain the same again, all those who have been involved in these perennial attacks shall face the full force of the law” Ruto warned, adding that the President is fully behind the operation.

Furthermore, he stated that the security menace in the county will be dealt with, ruthlessly by the newly reinforced security forces comprising of 230 new national police reservists who will work with regular police to ensure that the bandits will be wiped out once and for all reiterating his Friday’s shoot to kill policy.

Ruto who was speaking at Kipsaraman in Baringo North which has also suffered banditry attacks, announced due to the ongoing insecurity challenges in the region, lower parts of Baringo North, some parts of Baringo south and Elgeyo Marakwet will now be declared dangerous and disturbed zones.

"Under the police act section 106, those areas which have been experiencing conflicts shall be gazetted as dangerous and disturbed areas so that full operation will take place" he said.

Heavy duty vehicles and a police chopper will be used in the operation to flush out the bandits which is expected to begin tomorrow.

The DP remarks comes a day after he was forced to cut short his meeting in volatile Mochongoi after suspected cattle rustlers fired in the air, sending residents who had catered to flee for their dear life.

The inspector general of police, Joseph Boinett who had accompanied the DP, said one command center for Elgeyo marakwet, Baringo, west pokot  and turkana will be set up to organise the attacks against the ruthless  cattle rustlers

“The kerio valley belt will be placed under one command structure to flush out cattle rustlers and enemies of peace. Boinett said

He echoed the deputy president sentiments by adding death cases will now be a thing of the past.

“I have given orders to all police officers that I don’t ever want to hear any civilian has been killed in mysterious circumstances”

Ruto also heeded the resident’s demands for full compensation for victims of cattle rustling.

"A total of 100 Million will be given as compensation to those who have lost their livestock to cattle rustlers" he said

At the same time he hinted that the government will give out Shs 10 million to be paid as school fees for those students who have been affected by insecurity as well as donate 5,000 bags of assorted foodstuffs to those affected by the conflicts.

The DP was accompanied by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen , Kericho senator Aaron Cheruiyot, Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi , Women Representative Grace Kiptui , Baringo North MP William Cheptumo and Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos among other top dignitaries.
