The duo suffered bullet injuries in the thigh and arm on Sunday when chaos erupted at Vumilia Village in Nairobi's Outering Road.
According to emerging reports, the men were part of the youth seeking handouts from Sonko, who is vying for the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat.
Also, police suspect that the bodyguards could be those of Embakasi East Jubilee MP candidate Francis Mureithi present at the political meeting.
It is said that when the youth started pushing and shoving to receive money from the Senator, the bodyguards opened fire injuring the two.
Nairobi DCI chief Nicholas Kamwende indicated that investigations were underway adding that the two were among hundreds of youth attending Mr Sonko's political rally.
“We have sent a team to the ground to talk to witnesses. It does not matter who was involved and we are determined to ensure justice,” he said.
At the same time, Buru Buru DCI chief Jeremiah Ikiao on Monday proceeded to the scene of the incident to carry out the probe.
Efforts by Plive.co.ke to get in touch with the Senator were futile.
