Nasa supporters attack Kidero

Kidero was at pains to explain ODM's activities to over 400 leaders.

Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero with Nairobi Weman Representative candidate Esther Passaris address the media after attending a church service at Regina Caeli Catholic Church in Karen.

Kidero had called the meeting to avert possible fallout from Nasa affiliate parties in the city with elections only 41 days away.

The Wiper leaders blamed Kidero and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) of side-lining other parties during Nasa campaign activities in Nairobi.

According to The Nation, Wiper leaders claimed that ODM did not respect the other parties and blamed Kidero that during his political rallies, everything is turned into an ODM affair.

Nairobi Wiper candidates’ caucus chairman, Mutiso Mutinda, said that Kidero has been funding ODM aspirants leaving them out.

At the heart of the rivalry is the Nairobi Women’s Representative seat between ODM’s Esther Passaris and Wiper’s Rahab Ndambuki.

The Wiper leaders further complained that during a recent rally in Dagoretti constituency, Nasa flag bearer Raila Odinga used the occasion to publicly call for six-piece vote in the city.

He further incensed the Wiper Party by failing to recognise Ndambuki who forced herself to the podium to address the crowd.

Kidero promised to bring all the Nasa affiliate party leaders together and urged for unity, warning that Jubilee will run away with majority of the city seats if they remained divided.

“We lost seats in 2013 because we could not agree as Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord), but this time we have worked together with a great sense of respect for the last four years and we cannot risk making a mistake at this hour of need,” Dr Kidero said.

In 2013, the then Cord is said to have lost many seats to the Jubilee alliance because each of its affiliate parties had fielded candidates, which divided the votes.

Jubilee won woman representative post, senator and 10 MP seats, and 42 MCA positions. Cord only managed to bag the governor, seven MPs and 43 MCA seats.
