New twist emerges in Johos’s degree case

The case involving embattled Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has taken a fresh new twist.

Joho has now been ordered to testify in person in a petition he filed in court seeking orders to stop the State from charging him with forgery of a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) result slip.

Justice Erick Ogola told the parties in the case to prepare their witnesses so that the matter can be expedited immediately.

“I want this matter to be concluded before the General Election because it might have some implication in the coming General Election,” said Justice Ogola.

Last month Governor Joho had petitioned that the State to be permanently stopped from carrying investigation into claims he forged the result slip in 1992.

The State had earlier petitioned the ruling in which the court barred the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) from prosecuting Joho.

The High Court had rejected renewed attempt to block Joho from presenting papers to defend seat with the arguing that doing so would violate his rights and ruled investigations against him appeared malicious and politically motivated.

Joho accused the Jubilee administration led by President Uhuru Kenyatta of using all of its state organs including the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and even the Ministry of Health (whom he claims are investigating his birth certificate) to frustrate and prevent him from being re-elected as Mombasa Governor.
