Miraa beneficial to the health and sexual reproductive system according to latest research

Those who chew miraa are less likely to develop heart complications in the future.

According to a conclusive research presented during the 7th Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri) Annual Scientific and Health Conference on Thursday, miraa helps in weight management and people who chew the herb are less likely to be obese because their appetite is suppressed.

The research also revealed that the reproductive health of miraa consumers is in tip-top shape.

The two-year study which was conducted in Meru and Embu counties by a team of scientists Led by Prof Charles Lumumba of Rongo University who found out that most of the information on dangers associated with the crop cannot be proven.

The study also disqualifies perceptions that people who chew miraa are more susceptible to mental disorders or sexual dysfunction.

It was previously believed that the consumption of the stimulant led to a number of health problems including dental, weakened body immunity and low libido.

In 2015, a study by lecturers from Moi University revealed that consumption of miraa affects the sexual capability of men and could lead to heart attack.

The lead scientist of the research Ochiba Lukanda said that a similar study conducted in the Middle East had proven that men who stopped chewing the plant performed well in bed.

However, the new research shows that there were no statistically significant differences in semen parameters between miraa chewers and non-chewers.

“Although it was noted that different types of khat have different effects in regards to sex, from the qualitative arm, it was commonly said it enhances sexual stimulation with no seen negative effects on fertility,” the report reads in part.

It shows that miraa was reported by a majority to be an energiser that enables people to work more and effectively, provide mental alertness.
