Anxiety as Nation Media Group announces dismissal of employees

Employees to lose jobs at NMG

In a statement seen by Pulselive.co.ke, NMG explained that this was due to the digital strategy the company was still implementing.

Strategy implementation

"Over the recent past, we embarked on a strategic journey of transforming the Group into a modern 21st-century digital content company. In this regard, the implementation of the strategy will continue to involve the reorganization of our operations across the group.

"Regrettably, this will result in a reduction of our workforce,” the statement reads in part.

The Media Group assured affected employees that the exercise will be conducted as per the law and in due respect.

NMG also stated: “We will strive to provide all the necessary support to help them manage through this transition”.

In 2017, 15 journalists were sacked from the Aga-Khan owned media house with big names like Ken Walibora (Quality manager, Kiswahili), Eric Shimoli (News Editor) appearing on the list.

In 2015, NMG shut down a number of its outlets including QTV, QFM and Nation FM. The decision saw tens of employees lose their jobs including Jeff Koinange, Ciru Muriki, Jambi Koikai, Sanaipei Tande, Antoneosoul among others.
