Babu Owino announces first action after vote recount win

Babu made the announcement just moments after the final parliamentary vote recount was released.

On Monday evening, the results revealed that Owino won the Embakasi East parliamentary race after he garnered 46,817 votes against 42,501 votes by his main rival, Jubilee's  Francis Mureithi.

The final vote recount tally was signed by High Court Deputy Registrars Esther Mburu and Mbayaki Wafula.

After the confirmation, Owino in a move meant to show that he was ready to continue the work he had started in his constituency, took to his Twitter account to announce his immediate plans for Embakasi East.

He announced that he will commence the immediate renovation of schools in his constituency in a few days time.

"The first schools that will be renovated in Embakasi East are:Donholm primary in upper Savana ward and Maua primary in Mihang’o ward. This work is scheduled to kick off from next month," Owino tweeted.

The announcement was roundly welcomed by his supporters and constituents who congratulated him and urged him to continue with the development agenda in the area.

Conceded defeat

At the same time, the ODM legislator revealed that his bitter rival Mr Mureithi had called him to concede defeat after the final tally of results was made public.

"Mr Francis Mureithi who petitioned my victory as the current Embakasi East MP at the high court has just called to concede defeat ahead of the court ruling scheduled for Friday this week. It's time to serve my people," Owino tweeted.

There was confusion last week as both Owino and his rival Mureithi declared themselves victors in the Vote recount.

In January, the High Court ordered recount and scrutiny of all votes cast in the parliamentary race during the August 8 election in Embakasi East after an election petition filed by Mureithi who cited massive irregularities in the exercise.
