Billy Graham passes on at the age of 99

He was the first evangelist to walk Hollywoods Hall of fame...

Billy Graham died at the age of 99 at his Montreat home in North Carolina according to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association spokesperson.

The Evangelist who has been praised as the world’s best known evangelist started his Christian journey at the age of 16. He then got ordained as a minister in 1939 having gone through Florida Bible Institute.

Graham received additional training at Wheaton College in Illinois where he met his wife Ruth McCue Bell. They were blessed with five children and were married for 64 years until Ruth died in 2007.

He also founded his own ministry Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in 1950. BGEA exists to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ by every effective means to equip the church and others to do the same.

Inspired by the life of Jesus and the scripture Mark16:15 Go into all the world and preach the gospel, he began his worldwide ministry in 1954.

Billy Graham also supported civil rights movement and firmly stood against segregation. He supported Martin Luther King’s endeavors saying that the Bible does not support segregation.

He supported various US Presidents from Truman to George Bush and Obama by praying for them and offering counsel.

His 60-year long career came to an end in 2005 when Billy Graham retired by preaching his last message in New York titled “The Cross-Billy Graham’s message to America” at the age of 86.

It is estimated that Billy Graham preached to more than 210 million people in 185 countries in his life.
