Top school in KCSE to sue Matiang’i after cancelling results of all students

Chebuyusi Boys’ High School in Kakamega County has threatened to sue acting Cabinet Secretary for Education Dr. Fred Matiang’i after the 2017 KCSE results were cancelled under unclear circumstances.

The school Principal Boniface Okoth and Kakamega leaders have criticised Knec for cancelling the institution’s KCSE exam results.

According to Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe and Kakemega Senator Cleophas Malala they will join hands in suing Knec for the cancellation, three weeks after releasing the results.

Results of all the 190 students were cancelled among the 1,025 others countrywide over cheating after Knec cited collusion in the Chemistry and Biology papers.

Chebuyusi was ranked the top school in Kakamega county and position 16 nationally, with a mean score of 8.911, beating giants such as Kakamega School.

“They are talking about collusion, but no one ever came here to investigate the alleged acts by interrogating the students... They are not saying which paper there was collusion on because both Biology and Chemistry have more than one paper,” Okoth said.

The results of 1,205 candidates in the 2017 KCSE examination were cancelled over cheating.

The affected students were from nine out of 10 schools whose results had been withheld pending investigations.

“Candidates whose results have been cancelled have been offered an opportunity to register for the 2018 KCSE examination before the registration deadline ends on February 28, 2018,” prof. Magoha said during a press briefing at Mitihani House
