DPP's special message to Kenyans on a day of dramatic arrests

The DPP has in the past few days acted swiftly on the scandals that have rocked the country.

DPP Haji appealed to Kenyans for help in ensuring the prosecution of over 50 NYS suspects who include the Public Service Principal Secretary Lilian Omollo and several NYS top officials led by Director General Richard Ndubai.

The others include top public servants and directors/proprietors of business entities.

“I urge any person with information that may assist in the prosecution of the above (NYS suspects) to volunteer the same to my office. The information will be treated with utmost confidentiality,” Haji said during a press briefing in his office on Monday.

Sufficient evidence

A confident Haji said he had sufficient evidence to press charges against the arrested suspects in connection with the latest NYS scam.

"They will be charged with conspiracy to commit an offense of corruption, willful failure to comply with applicable procedures and guidelines on the management of public funds, breach of trust, neglect of official duty, abuse of office, fraudulent acquisition of public property and fraudulent making payments from public revenues," the DPP said.

The suspects are set to be arraigned in court on Tuesday to face the charges.

The DPP at the same time confirmed that several bank accounts which the NYS funds were channelled through have been frozen and his office was already working with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to Assets Recovery Agency in that regard.
