The former Agriculture minister and ex-Imenti South MP died at the age of 91.
M'Mbijiwe passed away after complications passed away on Wednesday night at Kirua mission hospital after a long battle with throat cancer.
He served in the first cabinet of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta as minister for Agriculture and MP for Meru Central and South Imenti Constituency.
He also served as Energy and later as Health minister under former president Daniel Moi’s Government.
President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta sent his condolences to the family and friends of the former minister.
"Also deeply saddened by the demise of Gilbert Kabere M’Mbijiwe who served as a minister for Agriculture in President Moi’s government. May God comfort the grieving family," Kenyatta said.
