Why Kenyans are worried that the new education curriculum is promoting homosexuality

Is the 2-6-6-3 education system promoting homosexuality?

This was ignited after a controversial photo of a textbook purportedly to be used in schools under the new system was posted online.

The photo showed a page of the book defining a family setup as that composed of gay couples.

Netizens condemned the 2-6-6-3 system meant to replace the old 8-4-4 with some citing that it was promoting homosexuality among children.

A section of the public was greatly angered by the definition of a family highlighting that the system was introducing bad morals in the society by making it appear normal to the young generation.

However, the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) dismissed the textbook noting that it was not part of the Kenyan syllabus.

“Dear Kenyans. Let's not join those spreading false information about the ongoing education reforms. It is about our children,”KICD said.

Investigations

Pulselive.co.ke conducted an in-depth look and established that the textbook was allegedly from an international school in Egypt

In December, Egypt’s Ministry of Education assigned the General Education Sector’s committee to initiate an urgent investigation regarding the validity of pictures which “support homosexuality in the educational curricula” following social media claims.

On Wednesay, CS Matiang’i informed the country that the 8-4-4 will be fully scrapped off by 2027 as the last students are expected to sit for the National Exams in 2026.
