Shots fired in Kisumu during private 'ID buying meeting'

Police were forced to shoot in the air to disperse the rowdy youth

The meeting at Jumuia Hotel in Kisumu meeting convened by Fida Kenya was forced to come to a halt after residents started throwing stones forcing police to fire in the air. Fida Kenya has not responded to the accusations yet.

FIDA Kenya is a membership organization tailored to the creation of a "society that is free from all forms of discrimination against women."

The residents claim people were discussing how to buy ID cards ahead of the October 17 presidential poll. Unconfirmed reports indicate that the crucial document was being exchanged at a cost of Sh100 per ID.

There have been numerous allegation of voter bribery extending to ID purchasing to subvert the will of the people.

In a contradictory remark, the organisers of the meeting, however, says that they are the Nyanza Women of Faith Network which brings together people from Migori, Homabay, Kisii, Kisumu and Siaya to strategise on peace campaigns.
