Airport Officials issue statement on reports of attempted flee by NYS suspect

Mr Ndubai was released yesterday.

Kenya Airports Police Unit (KAPU) in the statement has dismissed reports that the ex-NYS Director-General, Mr Ndubai, had on Wednesday night attempted to flee Kenya after his release from remand.

Earlier, speculations were rife on social media Wednesday night through Thursday morning that that the NYS boss had booked a KQ flight to Dubai in the UAE, raising eyebrows on whether he deposited his travel documents as was ordered by the Courts.

KAPU commander Richard Mugwanja said the reports were fake, and that KAPU had neither arrested Mr Ndubai nor received any information about him attempting to leave the country.

The reports emerged hours after eight more suspects accused of looting the National Youth Service walked to their temporary freedom after spending a month in remand.

The accused, including ex-Director-General Richard Ndubai, were set free after their bonds and bails were verified. Their release brought to 16 out of 47, the number of suspects who have walked out the cells.

The suspects who were released from remand on Wednesday are businessman Peter Kimani, Michael Ojiambo, who is a former director of administration at Youth Affairs ministry, Rodgers Nzioka, Wellington Lubira - who is a former acting director of finance at NYS, Sammy Mbugua - a former head of accounts at Youth Affairs ministry, Kenneth Mwathi and Peter Muritu.

Meanwhile, Mr Ndubai has confirmed that he is currently in Nairobi and the reports were fake.

“I am very much in Nairobi. Ignore those reports,” he said as quoted by the Standard.

His lawyer Migos Ogamba termed the reports as fake.

“I am with the DG and I wonder how he can be checking in at JKIA when he is here with me. Those are fake reports being created by people out to mislead Kenyans,” he said.
