Police are investigating the cause of the fire

Three government offices based in Mombasa have been burnt this morning in a fierce inferno.

The Kenya Ferry Services houses at the Likoni crossing channel were this morning completely destroyed by fire.

The three are the staff conference room, safety office and that of the deputy engineer.

A guard at the facility told the press that she heard an explosion shortly followed by a cloud of fire, which has destroyed everything in the said offices.

"I heard a huge explosive at one of the sockets. Let's wait for comprehensive investigations by detectives but I guess it was an electrical fault," she said

The county firefighters arrived a few minutes later and contained the fire from spreading to other offices. The Kenya Ferry Services headquarters are just 20 meters away.

Confirming the incident, area OCPD Benjamin Rotich said that they have mounted an investigation to establish the cause of the fire.
