Former Nation Media journalist lands plum job in US

She heads west in March

A former Nation Media Group journalist has landed a plum job in a United States based firm, Wikimedia Foundation.

The journalist Kui Kinyanjui in her new job will serve as the Vice-President of communications in the non-profit Foundation.

According to a report by Business Today, Kui will be responsible for overall media positioning and coverage, critical issue management, extending digital media strategy, products, and presence, and supporting organizational leadership with public communications.

“We wanted someone who would bring a fresh voice, an understanding of emerging markets, and practical experience outside our current competencies,” said Katherine Maher the Executive Director, Wikimedia Foundation.

Kui, is currently the head of corporate communications at Kenya’s Telecommunication service provider Safaricom and she is expected to join the Wikimedia Foundation in March, after the end of her current term at Safaricom.

She also has a rich background in corporate communications having worked for Business Daily and other platforms within Nation Media Group, communications for IBM, Ogilvy PR Worldwide, and Media Moguls.

Wikimedia Foundation is a nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to encouraging the growth, development and distribution of free, multilingual, educational content and providing the full content of wiki-based projects to the public free of charge.
