Chaos erupts as parents protest after Moi Girls School fire

Furious parents stormed the school demanding to know about the fate of their children

Armed police officers were deployed to the school to prevent angry parents from accessing the dormitories which was cordoned off by security personnel.

Nairobi County Commander Japheth Koome had a rough time trying to calm down the furious parents who demanded access to the dormitory which was burnt down.

Give us the bodies! We have already accepted!!” the parents shouted at the parents.

Koome pleaded with the parents to give the authorities time because some of those who perished were burnt beyond recognition and needed experts to take DNA tests to identify the deceased.

Earlier on, NASA leader Raila Odinga and Chief Justice David Maraga visited the school and were briefed on the situation.

Accompanied by area Member of Parliament, Ken Okoth, the former Prime Minister also cautioned Kenyans to stop speculation and leave government agencies to deal with the matter and conduct proper investigations.

Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i indicated that the school will be closed to allow students recover from shock.

"The school will remain closed for the next two weeks to allow the students to recover from the shock of the incident," he stated.
