Moses Kuria's advice to MPs who want to impeach Sicily Kariuki

"It amounts to a lack of common sense."

Nelson Koech (Belgut), Bashir Abdullahi (Mandera North) and Rehema Jaldesa (Isiolo woman representative) presented the motion on Tuesday.

The motion gained momentum on Wednesday after 100 MPs signed it. The motion and signatures were presented to Speaker Justin Muturi and clerk Michael Sialai.

This is after the Health CS was accused of not following protocol when suspending Kenyatta National Hospital CEO Lily Koros after a botched surgery on the wrong patient.

Moses Kuria reacts to plan by MPs to impeach the Health CS

Kuria was against the motion saying that the motion is not in good faith and will fail as the MPs are only reacting to protect a member of their own community.

According to The Star, the MP said that the mtu wetu syndrome needs to be done away with as it would only encourage incompetence in civil servants.

"That the Bashir motion to censure CS Kariuki will be defeated is not in doubt. What is annoying is this primitive 'Mtu Wetu' syndrome. Cabinet Secretaries have a job to do. So, we censure Sicily over Lilian Koros and not appointing a Somali to KEMSA, we censure Tobiko for firing Emilio Mugo from KFS despite the wanton destruction of forests, what is the end to all this?" Kuria added.

The motion will be tabled next week for the MPs to debate on it.

Kuria isn't happy with this development since if the motion allowed to proceed, ethnically motivated impeachment motions will be replicated in other ministries and state agencies.

“The acting CEO at KEMSA is a Luhya. Tomorrow the Luhya Parliamentary group also moves to censure the CS for their own reason?” the MP stated.

By his measure, the move amounts to a lack of common sense from the legislators who have back ethnic-centred decisions.

On Thursday, the MP paid a courtesy call to the Health CS encouraging her to, "Keep her eyes firmly focussed on delivering the President's Universal Healthcare agenda which is part of the legacy's Big 4 . As parliament we will fully support the CS in delivering the President's agenda and sound legacy."
