Another Editor at Nation Media Group quits

The exit comes hours after columnists writing for Nation Media Group (NMG) publication also quit.

Mutegi took to social media to announce his exit from the Nation Media Group and bid farewell to his colleagues.

"After eight years working at Nation Media Group’s Business Daily, it’s time to say goodbye to the only job I’ve known since leaving campus. It’s been my pleasure penning articles for my readers (you). It’s time to chart a new course, career-wise. I leave NMG fulfilled. Cheers," Mutegi tweeted.

Mutegi's exit comes hours after columnists writing for Nation Media Group (NMG) publication withdrew their contract with the Aga Khan-owned media house.

In a statement, the columnists protested against editorial interference allegedly being spearheaded by the management.

They also accused the paper of working for the Government hence challenging its credibility while reporting on matters portraying the Executive in a bad light.

However, Mutegi was quick to dispel rumours that his exit was linked to the mass exodus from NMG.

"For those asking - no, my exit has nothing to do with the so-called exodus. It’s purely coincidental and, as they say in the football world, by mutual consent. I’ll always be indebted to NMG and I believe its journalism," he added.

Mutegi joined NMG in January 2010 as a graduate trainee. He was later in the same year posted to the Business Daily’s newsroom where he was promoted to senior reporter attached to the corporate section of the newspaper, writing about various Kenyan companies.

He however specialised his craft around the airlines’ industry while also writing authoritatively about the competition law as well as the education sector.

He was also the editor for Enterprise, a weekly pull out.

Mutegi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from the Kenyatta University and is pursuing his Masters of Arts in Communication Studies at the University of Nairobi.
