While at The Westlands Mall on Monday, the governor together with the City Inspectorate Department prohibited U-turns, double parking and users who blocked motorists.
This resulted in eased traffic flow along the Westlands-Waiyaki Way road.
In a statement issued on Monday, the former Nairobi senator declared, “The City Inspectorate Department will ensure obstruction no longer takes place. To ensure the flow of traffic we saw today at Westlands, we shall be going stage by stage.”
The news was welcome as traffic congestion has been a big problem in Nairobi. The city is ranked as the second worst city in the world in terms of traffic. It is estimated that Nairobi residents spend 62.44 minutes in traffic daily.
Traffic management was one of the governor's key selling points when he was campaigning for the seat for August 8 polls. He has held meetings with NTSA, National Police Service, Matatu Owners Association among other stakeholders.
Governor Sonko had promised to tackle the issue and is now delivering on his pledge.
