Kakamega Sen Cleophas Malala put under house arrest over anti-IEBC demos

He was set to lead the protests against the IEBC on Monday

Cleophas Malala was placed under house arrest and blocked from leading the anti-IEBC protests in Kakamega town, a day after Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga left the area.

Mr Malala was set to lead a major demo in a bid to oust top IEBC officials from office and also downplay the Jubilee proposed laws in parliament.

The senator said that he had applied for permits and they were acknowledged only for him to be told that the permits he had acquired last week had been cancelled.

He divulged that around 50 armed police officers flooded his home in the morning. The officers camped outside his gate, making it impossible for him to leave.

Cleophas Malala said that he will not be intimidated and that Jubilee party should be told that NASA will not relent.

He went on to say that that  the Anti IEBC protest will still go on in the county whether he is present or not.

NASA has given IEBC ‘irreducible minimums’ for it to adhere to in order for NASA to participate in the October 26 elections. They still insist that there will be no elections without reforms.

The partial arrest by the Senator comes in the midst of widespread anti-IEBC protests. The protests, according to Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga, are meant to force rogue IEBC officials out of office.
