Red Cross and other emergency response teams rushed to the scene to coordinate rescue operations and rush the injured to hospital.
Nairobi County officials and other rescue agencies responded swiftly and evacuated the residents to safety.
No casualty was reported in the Saturday morning incident due to the swift response.
Noela Musundi of the Kenya Red Cross confirmed that “there were no casualties, but property got destroyed”.
Nairobi governor Mike Sonko visited the scene on Saturday morning and pledged to stand with those affected as they build their lives afresh.
Residents stated that cracks began to appear on the building at 10 PM on Friday, prompting occupants to move out.
However, property of unknown value was destroyed as the building caved in before much could be salvaged.
Similar accidents have happened in Nairobi’s Eastlands area where many buildings marked for demolition by the National Construction Authority.
