Radical proposal to be tabled in parliament following the FlySax plane crash

MP proposes radical changes to Kenya's aviation industry

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has disclosed that he will move a bill in parliament to get bar light aircrafts from transporting passengers across the country.

The legislator noted that the planes are small and light and cannot withstand extreme weather conditions and as such it is necessary to get rid of them.

"I am a frequent traveller of this aircraft it could be because of the light weight that caused a mishap forcing the plane to crash. The best thing we can do as leaders is to get rid of them," Amisi said.

The legislator was speaking on Friday during the burial of two Fiji citizens who perished in the ill-fated flight from Kitale to Nairobi.

Sakaraia Mataka and his son Paul Mataka were part of the 10 who perished when the light aircraft crashed in Aberdares forest killing all on board.

The lawmaker also revealed that Transport CS James Macharia will be put to task to explain why rescue operations took more than 36 hours.

He noted that some lives may have been saved had rescuers gotten to the crash site in time.

"How do you stop a rescue operation midway when you have not gotten the victims. Is it that our aviation technology is not advanced, or is it that Kenyans are on their own when accidents occur?"  He asked.

The rescue mission took long and was postponed at some point, attracting outrage from Kenyans.
