Safaricom makes another change in MPESA

New Development

Lopokoiyit takes over from Brian Wamatu who has been the acting director following Ronald Webb's resignation in 2017.

Safaricom PLC CEO Bob Collymore made the major announcement, “I am pleased to announce that Sitoyo Lopokoiyit will be coming back to Safaricom as Director Financial Services effective 1st of March 2018.”

Lopokoiyit has worked with the communication company before but as a Head of M-PESA Strategy and Business Development.

While working with Safaricom PLC as the head of M-Pesa his duties entailed leading the team in delivering several key products and services: development and launch of M-Shwari the world’s first bank account fully accessible via a mobile phone, driving merchant payments (lipa Na M-PESA), and moving M-PESA from a focus of peer to peer funds transfer to a collaborative payments partnership model.

During Sitoyo’s time at Safaricom PLC M-PESA revenue grew double digit every year.

Sitoyo has ten years’ experience in management from various fields and he holds a Bachelor of Commerce (hons) and Msc in Infromation Technology Management and Organizational Change from Lancaster University in UK.

Lopokoiyit’s role has left Wamatu without a defined task but the CEO clarified his new position is yet to be made known.

Collymore extended his gratitude to Wamatu for his leadership during the short period he has served as Director of Financial services.
