Sonko forces 200 County workers to go on compulsory leave

Sonko's order is coming days after he was involved in a confrontation with auctioneers and tenants at Ngong Road

The Governor's order comes days after he was involved in a confrontation with auctioneers and tenants at an 8.5 acre property on Ngong road.

Those sent on compulsive leave are officials from the departments of Lands, Rates, legal, debt collection and urban planning.

The letter was issued on October 2, 2017 but did not state the reason for the compulsory leave.

Those affected by the order include, Legal Services Director Karisa Iha, Senior lawyers Nyanga Nyamweya, Violet Oyangi, Evans Mogire, John Ombogi and Princiapl Counsel Newton Mungai among others.

“You are hereby instructed to proceed to compulsory leave with immediate effect and not later that October 2, until you are recalled to the office. Please note that non-compliance will be dealt with according to the laid down regulations,”  part of the letter signed by acting County Secretary Leboo Morintat read.

However the Governor has also suspended 15 employees allegedly involved in Land grabbing saga.

According to the Kenya County Government Workers Union, the workers were sent home without explanation.

“We demand for the immediate opening of locked offices. The said letter should be revoked immediately” said Boniface Waweru an official at the Workers Union

The County Boss has accused the affected departments of intentionally tampering with records of prime properties at City Hall.
