Blow to Raila as his final request to Supreme Court denied

The request was key in his case logged at the Supreme Court

Nairobi police boss Japheth Koome has eventually turned down a request by the National Super Alliance (NASA). The NASA team intended to hold prayers for the presidential petition on Sunday outside the Supreme Court.

In his response, Mr Koome indicated that Kenyans should note that the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) will not allow any persons to interrupt the court events set to begin today (Saturday) from 7pm.

“Please note that I will not allow any person to disrupt the court proceedings hence the request by NASA rejected,” said Koome.

He added: “Note that City Hall way, Taifa Road and part of Wabera Street will remain closed from both vehicle and human traffic. Also the High court parking will remain closed for vehicle and small scale traders (hawkers). This applies on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Friday.”

Meanwhile, Raila's team has maintaned that there is not law that gives police powers to approve or reject notices for public gatherings.

Responding shortly after the message from Mr Koome, ODM executive director Oduor Ong'wen has that it is "incomprehensible" for police to outlaw a prayer meeting NASA was to have on Sunday.

On Friday, Nairobi police commander Japheth Koome said he will not allow the Opposition coalition to hold a vigil at the Supreme Court ahead of petition hearings.
