The strange international numbers calling Kenyans

Have you received calls from these numbers?

The phone numbers which have zip codes of Syria, Switzerland, Guinea, Turkey among others were first highlighted by Facebook and Twitter users.

Jacob Ouma posted online to enquire whether he was the only one receiving calls from the peculiar phone number only to realize he was not alone. Minutes after raising the concern, several Kenyans streamed in to post their own encounter.

Soliciting for money

Pulselive.co.ke spoke to Mari who divulged that she was called from Turkey and the stranger on the other end of the line was asking for money.

Martin Wachira told us that he too got a call from Switzerland but decided to ignore owing to the countless scams he has already witnessed.

From the survey Pulselive.co.ke conducted, Grace who once picked the call from an unfamiliar number, mentioned that she was informed that she had won a Green card and $4000.

Her excitement for this to-die-for opportunity did not last long as she was asked to disclose her bank account details, something that made her doubt the credibility of the information.

Airtime mystery

At the same time, one Lewis stated that he gets several missed calls from the strange number and when he once tried to call back, his airtime mysteriously disappeared.

"I always find missed calls! I tried calling back and my 50 bob credit disappeared like that within seconds," he said.

Pulselive.co.ke highlighted the matter to Safaricom but the Telecommunication company is yet to reply.

Prisoners at Kamiti have been minting money from Kenyans using the same technique.
