3 Important clarifications Raila made today

Raila makes things clear

In his speech, Mr. Odinga started by denouncing speculations that the Orange Party had called an emergency meeting.

The former Prime Minister emphasized that ODM was not in panic but was simply discussing normal party affairs during the meeting.

"This is not an emergency meeting or a crisis meeting called to respond to some imaginary issues. It is a normal meeting. This party is not in panic. ODM is strong and growing stronger," he said.

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho also rubbished the reports indicating that ODM held the meeting to fire back at Jubilee leaders, who on Sunday scathingly attacked Mr. Odinga and his Party.

"There are some reporting that we may be here to firefight. Obviously, they want to set our agenda. But we are not here to firefight but to solidify ODM as a Party," Joho, who is ODM Deputy Chair said.

The Opposition chief touched on the March 9th  handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta, which has seemingly created confusion in the Party.

Odinga admitted that there has been confusion about what the handshake meant for the Opposition and its supporters noting that this ought not to be the case.

“Some say this are confusing times because of the handshake. But I disagree. There is no confusion in our country or our politics. What has happened is that our politics have changed since March 9. Those who have not embraced the handshake are the only once wallowing in confusion” he said.

According to Odinga, the handshake was a memorandum of understanding which now forms the basis of a relationship between the Opposition and the ruling Government.

At the same time, Mr. Odinga noted that the Opposition was no longer a whistle-blower of corruption but was now working with the Government to fight the vice.

He added that he was ready to take the lifestyle audit which President Kenyatta said all government officials should undergo.

"We remain in the Opposition and take the position that what is good for Kenya is good for ODM. A lifestyle audit is good for Kenya. We are in it fully,” Odinga stated.

On Sunday, Jubilee leaders accompanying Deputy President William Ruto accused Mr. Odinga of using the handshake to bring division in the ruling party.
