Former powerful minister shames Matiang'i at Mombasa Hotel

Zero chills

Kimunya termed Matiang'i as an "inexperienced activist" who was only interested in being seen to be working but with no regard for the economy.

The former power minister in President Mwai Kibaki's government stated that such damning information as sugar being harmful should not be discussed in public.

“When a cabinet secretary stands up and says that Kenyan sugar has mercury, what are Kenyans supposed to do?"

“Imagine a tourist in America, who had booked to come to Kenya and reads headlines that a cabinet secretary has said that Kenyan sugar has mercury and is coming to our hotel. Will he come?” he posed rhetorically.

Kimunya, who is currently the Kipipiri MP, stated that during President Kibaki's government, such matters were dealt with cautiously to protect public interest.

“Let’s pray for Kenya and try to teach people that there are secrets you don’t go telling people just to appear you are the minister who is working the most,” Kimunya stated.
