New details emerge on Bob Collymore’s future at Safaricom

The Safaricom CEO went on medical leave in late October.

In late October, Safaricom announced Collymore would be away on medical leave while his duties would be temporarily filled by the company’s Chief Financial Officer Sateesh Kamath, supported by Director of Strategy and Innovation – Joseph Ogutu.

The announcement was followed by speculation with a notorious fake new website reported that the Safaricom CEO had been fired.

Some of the mischievous online users had taken advantage of Collymore’s sickness to propagate a false narrative that the company was in the process of hiring new executives.

A spot-check by Pulselive.co.ke has now established that the Safaricom CEO remains an employee of Safaricom even during his medical leave.

The 59-year old corporate executive had signed a two-year contract in May 2017 and is expected to resume his normal duties in the next few months.

The telecom’s Chairman, Nicholas Ng’ang’a, has urged Kenyans not to speculate on Collymore’s health and wished him a quick recover.

“On behalf of the board, management and the entire Safaricom community, I wish Bob quick recovery and look forward to him resuming his duties as soon as doctors allow him to do so,” stated Ng’ang’a in a recent statement.
