NASA Governor sends tough request to IEBC hours to tomorrow's election

The tough request is meant to change things

The governor has send the urgent request citing security concerns in the 4 counties that IEBC postponed Elections.

The affected counties include, Kisumu, Migori, Siaya and Homabay.

According to Nyong’o the disputed presidential poll had resulted in the loss of lives and serious injuries to his county residents, hence, IEBC should not push ahead with plans to have the election conducted against the wish of some voters.

The governor said that 53 cases of police brutality had been reported in the city of Kisumu, three of them resulting in deaths.

“One university student was killed in Kombewa last night and two others were killed here in Kisumu,” Nyong’o said.

The governor added that 42 other people had been beaten up or molested by police and were nursing physical injuries.

This comes after IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati stated that if the poll scheduled for tomorrow will fail to take place, the commission will not give another day for the exercise to happen.

“The law is very clear, if you look at section 55b of the Election Act, it says that where there is a natural factor preventing voting, or in case like what we have experienced today, issues that breach peace, the commission is under duty to give the voters a chance to exercise their rights and that is what we are doing. Now, if in case Saturday we have similar issues, then the commission will have to make a decision on the way forward. But we cannot keep on extending that right to vote after Saturday,” he added.

This comes after NASA supporters countrywide heeded their leader Raila Odinga’s call to boycott Thursday’s repeat presidential elections.
