Charity Ngilu’s Governorship in the balance after Court’s Order

Charity Ngilu in trouble

Presiding over the petition filed by former Governor Julius Malombe, Lady Justice Pauline Nyamweya allowed scrutiny of the votes, an exercise set to begin on January 23.

Mr. Maombe is petitioning the win of Ngilu arguing that there was massive rigging in the said polling stations during the August 8 General Election.

The recount will be supervised by Deputy Registrar of the High Court in Kitui, who said that they will report their findings on February 9.

Ngilu and Malombe were directed to appoint agents who will be present during the counting. Their lawyers are also required to be part of the process.

In his argument, Dr. Malombe told the court that the former Lands Cabinet Secretary bribed and intimidated voters.

He accuses Ngilu of intimidating his Wiper Party agents, who consequently failed to sign the results forms.

The former Governor also says that several polling stations exceeded the number of registered voted.

The case will be mentioned on February 1.
