Chebukati finally announces IEBC's next step.
Speaking at the annual Jurists Conference at Serena Beach Hotel in Mombasa Chebukati stated that the Commission will embark on plans to strengthen the IEBC in order to ensure forthcoming elections are better managed.
The Electoral body’s chairman welcomed the Supreme court decision noting that they were waiting for the full judgment in order to deal with any grey areas under the law.
"Once the judgement comes out we shall evaluate it and tell the country our roadmap and the way forward. We are looking at reforms in the law and the entire system of IEBC, restricting the processes. Those are things we must do and we shall embark on them immediately after we receive that judgement,” he disclosed.

He dismissed calls for the resignation of the IEBC Commissioners stating that the officials are in office as per the law.
“Commissioners are in office by the virtue of the Constitution and they are guidelines as to the term of office and exit from office," he said.
He reiterated that the Commission did a commendable work in conducting two elections within three months.
“I believe that the Supreme Court by its determination has confirmed that the election carried out on October 26 was properly done within the law," he noted.
At the same time, Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) Executive Director George Kegoro who also at the Conference called for Commissioners resignation.

Kegoro insisted that the Commission as currently constituted cannot hold another election.
“Chebukati should put in place a transition plan. The country will need a long time to prepare for the next election, preferably without the current IEBC,” he remarked.
