Citizen TV’s announcement on Uhuru’s votes causes panic

The results came even before the IEBC could make the official announcement.

Citizen TV, owned by media mogul S.K Macharia, caused confusion after purporting that President Uhuru Kenyatta had gotten 109,938 votes in Mandera west, which has only 26,816 registered voters.

The results streamlining from the Royal Media services stable also recorded President Kenyatta receiving 796,478 votes in Saku constituency which has 27,082 registered voters.

The screenshots of the confounding results have since gone viral with many asking the IEBC to explain the discrepancy.

However, television station later explained the discrepancy, stating that they had mixed up the results of Mandera West with those from Bungoma County.

“There was an on-air mix-up of results from Bungoma County and Mandera West constituency. The error if highly regretted,” the explanation stated.

The local media has been forced to come up with their own tallies after the IEBC stated that it would not have provisional results as had been the case in previous elections.
