NASA leader Raila Odinga has finally agreed to his deputy, Kalonzo Musyoka’s demand for structured talks with the Jubilee leadership before the planned swearing in ceremony.

After a lengthy meeting held on Tuesday at Musalia Mudavadi’s Lavington home, the former Prime Minister agreed that the swearing in plan should be a last resort.

However, the Opposition leaders agreed that the plans to swearing in Odinga would continue even as they went on with talks that would be facilitated by foreign envoys and religious leaders.

Johnstone Muthama

"We have decided to listen to those calling for talks. At the same time we are going on with our plans. That is why there is a flurry of meetings,” former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama confirmed.

Muthama was one of the hardliners who felt that the only way to dialogue with Jubilee was after Odinga had been sworn in as President.

Others who read from the same script as Muthama included businessman Jimi Wanjigi and lawyer Miguna Miguna who insisted that the inauguration would allow Odinga to negotiate on a peer-to-peer basis with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Karen Country Club meeting

Musyoka, on the other hand, opposed the plan and was reported to have been supported by Moses Wetangula while Musalia Mudavadi remained non-committal.

The Tuesday meeting came after a similar one on Monday, held at the Karen Country Club, where the former Prime Minister was isolated by his three co-principals when it came to the planned parallel inauguration ceremony.
