DP Ruto’s allies tear into Uhuru's lifestyle audit directive with 3 reasons [Video]

DP Ruto's allies poke holes on lifestyle audit ordered by President Kenyatta

Led by Senators Kithure Kindiki (Tharaka Nithi), Kiprotich Cherargei (Nandi) and Pokot South MP David Pkosing the leaders have maintained that while the intention is clear, the directive is not anchored in law.

The leaders cautioned that without the necessary legal framework the exercise remains a voluntary one and could be challenged in court.

“The audit is a noble thing but it is not anchored in the law so at best it will be voluntary. Like when the president said we take a pay cut during the last parliament it was himself and a few of us who took pay cuts,” Kindiki said.

His stand was supported by Pokot South MP David Pkosing who proposed a legal framework to conduct the exercise so as to ensure that it is not abused to settle political scores.

A second reason presented by DP Ruto’s allies is that exercise could be politicized and turned into a witch hunt to frustrate and end careers of certain politicians.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei warned that the fight against corruption will only succeed if it is sincere and not aimed at frustrating the political careers of others.

Sisi tumejua wale informal government ama wale kitchen cabinet ambao wako ndani tumejua azma yao na lengo lao ni kuangamiza watu wengine kisiasa (We know that the real intention of the informal government or the kitchen cabinet from within is to kill the political careers of others).

DP Ruto’s allies have also opined that the exercise will only succeed if it is conducted holistically and not merely focusing on a few individuals.

In this regard, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi challenged presidet Kenyatta to include the wealth of the Kenyatta family and Kenya’s founding President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

The crackdown on corruption and the lifestyle audit directive in the wake of runaway corruption has received mixed reactions from DP Ruto’s camp.

Well-placed sources within the camp reveal that DP’s allies are unfairly being targeted with swift action while those from President’s camp are being handled softly.
