  • Published:

Other Journalist were also roughed up in the incidents

Senior Citizen TV Reporter Francis Gachuri has spoken after being physically assaulted by NASA supporter while covering a presser at Wiper Headquarters.

Through his Twitter handle, Gachuri stated that he is fine despite being roughed up by NASA supporters.

“I am fine. Very fine. The incident at Wiper Hqs was unfortunate but all is well. Thank you for your kind regards.” Reads Gachuri’s tweet.

This comes after the NASA coalition took action following the Tuesday's afternoon attack on journalists.

Raila's personal assistant Dennis Onyango condemned the action saying that the youth had acted on their own.

"We wish to make it clear that the youth acted on their own and we condemn their actions in strongest terms possible. We ask media houses that may have captured the said youth on video to provide them to the Coalition for investigation and action. The National Super Alliance is deeply disturbed by an incident in which some youths attending its meeting at Wiper Headquarters earlier today assaulted some reporters from local media houses," Onyango said.

Director of Communication for ODM Party Phillip Etale also apologized following the incident.

“Dear Colleagues, I must say here what I saw was unfortunate, barbaric and archaic. I have reported the matter to Hon. Raila Odinga and he is not amused at all... A statement on the same will be released and the youths involved will be reprimanded. On behalf of NASA I apologise for the attack on my brother Gachuri and sister Jane of NTV. I am very disturbed.” stated Philip Etale.

Sources who spoke to Pulselive.co.ke indicated that Journalists had staged a walkout from the meeting after the incident.

A KTN reporter was also attacked during the incident while NTV cameraperson Jane Gatwiri was slapped for filming the incident.

It is alleged that the Journalists were attacked on allegations that they are pro-Jubilee.
