Matiang’i makes urgent changes after Uhuru’s appointment

Dr Matiang’i, who is now the acting Education CS, after President Uhuru relinquished him of his full roles and handed him the key Interior docket, renamed his profile to read the Minister for Interior, different from what he was using.
“Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior & Coordination of National Government; and Acting Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science & Technology – Kenya,” he changed his profile.
Meanwhile, Dr Matiang’i thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for the re-appointment to the docket, after he was reassigned his duties.

“I thank His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta for retaining me in his Cabinet and for reassigning my duties. I am humbled by the faith and trust he has bestowed upon me, and pledge to do my best by the grace of God to contribute to the delivery of the big four plan,” he later wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

Meanwhile, 13 cabinet secretaries were skipped on Friday during the naming of the new cabinet, which President Uhuru Kenyatta quipped that will be completed in few weeks.
Efforts by the Ameru professional group to campaign for Prof Kaimenyi hit a snag. They have, for some time now, run major campaigns in the press to have the CS retained.

For former Health CS Dr Mailu, the protracted strikes by health workers and the general crisis in the sector may have cost him his job.
The sackings hand Mr Kenyatta an opportunity to reach out to new allies, especially following the post-election realignment. However, it could also pose new challenges for him in the regions that will feel left out.
Friday’s shocker announcement also came with a seal of approval for Interior SC Fred Matiang’i, the man who has become the darling of the President and is often referred to as a super minister by his colleagues.
He is also the acting Education CS under the new dispensation, having switched the two roles. The others that the President retained were Mr Henry Rotich (National Treasury), Mr Najib Balala (Tourism), Mr James Macharia (Transport), Mr Charles Keter (Energy) and Mr Joe Mucheru (ICT).
It would appear that Attorney-General Githu Muigai was retained though the President did not make any mention of him.
