Mutunga’s night tweet to Sonko causes excitement

Rare message

Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga on Sunday night caused excitement after sending out a special message to Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

The reserved man of the law broke his silence on Nairobi politics after the flamboyant governor promised to travel to Dubai to benchmark on garbage collection.

“I admit that garbage collection is a menace. I am telling Nairobi that Sonko wants to fulfill his pledges. I want to benchmark with Dubai,” Sonko stated.

The message did not augur well with the former Chief Justice who used his mother tongue to criticise the idea of benchmarking in a foreign country for a local problem.

“We Mbuvi ni wisi takataka yiiva Ilovi withi Dubai kwika ata mwa? (Mbuvi, you know the garbage is here in Nairobi what are you going to do in Dubai?),” Sonko stated.

The former Chief Justice’s message elicited reactions, with many of the users supporting Mutunga’s message.

Nairobi Lawyer Ahmednasir Adullahi, who has recently had a tiff with the Nairobi Governor, hailed Mutunga for delivering the message in Kamba – which is Sonko’s mother tongue.

“Thanks CJ for explaining the issued in his mother tongue...I hope even in that regard you used very simple words…,” Abdullahi stated.
