Speaking to journalists, Sonko claimed that his life was in danger hence felt insecure to continue operations in the Capital.
The Governor added that he does not have enough security personnel following a directive by Interior and Coordination Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to cut down the number of bodyguards allocated to VIPs.
"If my life is in danger I must run to where I feel safe. My Nairobi home does not have security officers. Here in my Mua Hills home, I am safe because I have bodyguard watching over me," he said.
Sonko alleged that he now has only four bodyguards after 22 police officers were recalled by Mr. Matiang’i.
He went on to promise Nairobians that he will continue conducting his duties as the county boss from wherever.
This comes days after Sonko nominated lawyer Miguna Miguna as Nairobi’s Deputy Governor. Political pundits speculated that the surprise nomination was the Governor’s strategy to fight top officials in President Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee Party.
Sonko is on record accusing Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho of undermining him as the Governor.
He also claimed that there was a powerful Government official who had predicted his death.
