While making the declaration, Matiang’i, quoted ‘Prevention of Organized Crimes Act 2010’.“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 22 of the Act, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior and Co-ordination of National Government declares National Resistance Movement (NRM) to be organised criminal group for the purposes of the Act,” reads the gazette notice.
National Resistance Movement (NRM) is the parliamentary arm of the opposition; solves systemic and historical problems in Kenya like electoral fraud.
The pressure group which lobbies for electoral reforms championed for the boycotting of Bidco products, Safaricom which is a telecommunication company and Brookside. Their decision to boycott these companies’ products was based on claims that these companies aided rigging of August poll in favor of President Kenyatta.
The Government was not impressed with the NRM terming them as ’militia’ group. It promised to take stern action against the interest group.
