The 5 people who advised Uhuru not to consult Ruto on new cabinet

The 5 met with Uhuru a few hours before he made the announcement

The Star on Tuesday reported its sources indicating that just before making the announcement on the new cabinet, Kenyatta met with four of his trusted advisors.

Those in attendance included National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, Attorney General Githu Muigai, Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.

“It was in this meeting that final decisions were made on who was to be retained and why,” an anonymous source said of the meeting.

The Nation had on Sunday reported that the President’s younger brother Muhoho was also privy to the going ons and had a hand in the final decision.

Multiple reports quoted by the local media indicated that Kenyatta and Ruto had disagreed on possible nominees.

The head of state was intent on having performers who would shape his legacy, while Ruto was keen on having politically experienced cabinet members who would shape his 2022 presidential campaign.

After Kenyatta’s meeting with his trusted advisors, the decision was made to name some of the nominees the DP had objected to.

Ruto was said to be uncomfortable with Keriako Tobiko, instead preferring former Kajiado Governor David Nkedienye.

He also did not want Ukuru Yattani in cabinet given that the DP campaigned against the former Marsabit Governor during the last general election.

The reports came even as the Jubilee deputy leader denied being unhappy with President Kenyatta’s cabinet choices.

"Kenyans, more so Jubilee, should avoid useless political debates about positions including 2022 and focus single-mindedly on delivering our manifesto voted for by the people while allowing the President the space to perform his constitutional duty to assemble the team for us," he tweeted on Sunday evening.
