Journalist questions why Miguna was taken to cell in Mungiki-infested region

Miguna was arrested this morning

The manner in which Miguna's arrest was carried out leaves one wondering why the government would use so much force just to arrest a "comedian".

It also confirms the high level of insecurity that the Jubilee government faces, making a mountain out out of the mole hill that Odinga's so called inauguration was.

TJ Kajwang arrest

On Thursday, TJ Kajwang was taken to Milimani law courts where he had a chat with his lawyers in the basement in readiness for his appearance at the Magistrate's chambers.

However, when the judges left him for a few minutes, they were surprised to learn that the Ruaraka MP had been rushed to Ngong and taken before a magistrate.

In the case of Miguna, the security agencies have rushed him to Githunguri Police Station even though the crimes he is suspected or accused of committing were in Nairobi.

The choice of Githunguri appears mischievous given that the area has in the past been known to be one of the Mungiki hotspots.

Cash bond

It does not help matters that Miguna has on several occasions launched scathing attacks against the illegal sect, daring its members to hurt him.

“I understand Mungiki are being trained in Kiambu county to come and attack people at Uhuru Park, presumably to forcefully circumcise Luos and members of other ethnic communities. This is my message to NASA supporters: you have a right to self-defence,” Miguna had announced last week.

As it is, all pointers suggest the firebrand lawyer will be spending the weekend in police custody.

It is the duty of the police to offer him security while he is in state custody, let them move to a safe location or issue him with a cash bond as they recently did to Embakasi MP Babu Owino.
