Drama at JKIA as Orengo, Wanjigi blocked from leaving the country

The two NASA leaders had their passports confiscated and blocked from leaving Kenya.

The two were scheduled to fly out to Zimbabwe on a 9.20 pm flight in order to attend the funeral of the country’s opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai which takes place on Tuesday.

However after checking at the airport shortly after 9pm, an immigration official is said to have grabbed Wanjigi’s passport and walked away while talking to his phone saying that the businessman’s passport was suspended.

It was then that Wanjigi started shouting at the immigration officials present saying that they were acting against the law.

“That passport belongs to me give it to me. You are ignoring court orders,” the businessman complained.

Orengo too frantically shouted at the immigration officer who grabbed Wanjigi’s passport to identify himself but it was all in vain.

Orders from above

The immigration officials were adamant that they had received orders not to allow them use their passports.

The two NASA leaders later called Immigration Director Maj-Gen (Rtd) Gordon Kihalangwa over the incident after their plane left without them.

Kihalangwa denied he had seen the orders regarding their passports.

Frustrated, Orengo and Wanjigi later rescheduled their flights to Tuesday, 7am and vowed to stay at the airport till then.
