Orengo issues worrying statement after leaving Kenya

Siaya Senator James Orengo and businessman Jimi Wanjigi finally left the country for Zimbabwe on Tuesday afternoon.

Orengo and businessman Jimi Wanjigi were finally returned their passports which had been earlier confiscated by immigration officials at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and allowed to board the plane to Zimbabwe at around 1.45pm.

Uncertain

The Senator however disclosed that he was uncertain they would be allowed back into Kenya.

"If we leave, are we going to be able come back? And if we come back, will we be able to live here? In Kenya, you never know, they may say you belong to another country," Orengo stated moments before leaving the country.

Orengo complained that they had been inconvenienced and humiliated by the immigration officials in what they termed as unlawful.

"No one has told us we are guilty. I feel really offended. If the Executive can deal with me this way, then the dignity of Parliament is emasculated. We are not criminals. I am a state officer. If you can deal with me this way it means the authority of Parliament is emasculated," Orengo complained.

The two were scheduled to fly out to Zimbabwe on a 9.20 pm flight on Monday night for Tsvangirai's funeral.

However, the immigration officials remained adamant that they had received orders not to allow them use their passports.

The two NASA leaders later called Immigration Director Maj-Gen (Rtd) Gordon Kihalangwa over the incident after their plane left without them.

Kihalangwa later denied he had seen the orders regarding their passports.
