Jeff Koinange opens up after being linked to rape of 66-year old woman

Celebrated Kenyan journalist Jeff Koinange has for the first time opened up on rape accusations that ended his high-flying career at

Koinange narrated the emotional experience during a Hot 96 radio show which he co-hosts with comedian Jalang’o.

The popular presenter, famous for his JKL show, recalled an incident in 2007 where a 66-year old German businesswoman and author accused him of rape.

Marianne Briner, who is currently aged 76, launched an online campaign against Koinange, then CNN’s Africa Correspondent.

Briner had shared, long flirty email conversations that she had allegedly had with the current JKL host.

The German businesswoman, who had strong ties to Kenya, including serving as witness in the Ouko murder had supposedly penned a book which he wanted Koinange to help publicise.

She further narrated as they talked on email, their conversations became more romantic and culminated in a date at a London hotel where she claimed she was raped.

"I was still in the bathroom when he entered my room - not after 15 minutes as I had asked him, but after less than 5 minutes. Without any warning he opened the sliding doors of my bathroom - pulled me out telling me "Don't feel shy with me..."

"And then the big shock: he was already naked .... he then pushed me on the bed and in seconds tried to enter me..... I struggled and asked him several times to stop - but he forced himself into me," Brinner wrote on her blog.

However, the popular journalist has now defended himself stating that he had never met the German woman, and that their conversations were always on mail.

The Citizen TV presenter stated that the woman had wanted him to introduce her to Oprah Winfrey.

He added that the woman’s claims of rape reached his bosses at CNN which prompted them to sack him.

“My boss called me and asked, Jeff, where are you? I said I was driving on the highway and he asked me pull off the highway. The boss says -there is too much crap. The Nigerians think you stage managed a story and there is this woman. We can’t sustain this so we are going to have you let you go," Koinange narrated the incident which he termed as a trying time in his career.
